“I foster a lifelong love of reading, writing, and intellectual risk-taking in my students. In my classes, I incorporate principles of inclusion, equity, social justice, and ensure students in my classes feel heard and cared for so they grow and thrive.”

English and humanities teacher Sarah Barlow joined Poly in 2024. After two years at the Professional Children’s School (PCS) and 24 at LREI: The Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School, Sarah is thrilled to be teaching at Poly. She relocated to Brooklyn after finishing her Master’s in Teaching English at Brown University. Sarah grew up in Albuquerque, NM and had the good fortune to attend excellent schools, where her teachers inspired her to become one herself. After earning her degree in English from Occidental College, she began her teaching career at her former high school, the Albuquerque Academy. She was born on the Diné (Navajo) Nation where her parents helped start Diné legal services. She spent a year in India teaching Tibetan refugees and worked for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Environment Desk. Sarah also helped to create a gardening project in Sénégal and is currently involved in supporting a hospital in Nigeria. She took Spanish classes with her students at PCS and enjoys getting her verb tenses straight, loves traveling, delights in being a mom, and is an avid reader.
